Government of Canada to fund mental health programmes through Ottawa youth mental health project

OTTOWA, ON – The National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls shed light on the underlying systemic causes of ongoing violence against Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people. Additionally, the COVID-19 epidemic presented almost unheard-of challenges for persons in need of aid and the front-line organisations who provide them with services.

Taleeb Noormohamed, Member of Parliament for Vancouver Granville, today announced up to $400,000 for the Aboriginal Women’s Organizing Network Society on behalf of the Honourable Marci Ien, Minister for Women, Gender Equality, and Youth.

The National Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence was endorsed by the federal, provincial, and territorial ministers responsible for women’s issues in early November. The National Action Plan is built on five pillars: social infrastructure, an enabling environment, implementing Indigenous-led approaches, and prevention. Support is also provided for victims, survivors, and their families.
